Admission requirements

The bbw University of Applied Sciences aims to take eligibility and permeability into account.

Based on the Berlin Higher Education Law (Section 11 BerlHG), prospective students are granted the possibility of specialised higher education even without a certificate of general (Abitur) or vocational (Hochschulreife) eligibility for higher education.

Who can study at the bbw University of Applied Sciences?

The following preconditions for studies at the bbw University of Applied Sciences apply in principle:

  • School-leaving entry certificate for general (Abitur) or specialised (Fachhochschulreife) higher education,
  • a vocational qualification suitable for academic studies with at least three years of professional experience or
  • a certificate as a master craftsman, state-examined technician, state-examined business administrator or

Knowledge and skills acquired outside academic institutions may substitute up to 50% of higher education studies if:

  • the contents and level are equivalent to academic studies,
  • if this is confirmed by qualitative and content-related criteria and if this is reviewed in the context of accreditation.

The level classification is based on the Quality Framework for German Higher Education Qualifications adopted by the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs (KMK) on 21/04/2005. A maximum three semesters are recognised for full-time studies and a maximum four semesters for professionally flanking studies.

This applies inter alia to the following state-recognised vocational school qualifications or supplementary training courses:

  • IT supplementary training professions
  • Business administrators
  • Commercial specialists
  • State-examined business administrators
  • State-examined business economists
  • Master craftsmen
