A degree in mechanical engineering prepares students for a wide range of jobs in the company, from classic areas such as design, manufacturing technology and production logistics, to plant control and automation, to quality and project management. With the focus on technical revision, the degree programme also aims at the planning, operation and maintenance of large-scale technical plants. The degree programme "Mechanical Engineering - Technical Maintenance" is essentially aimed at professionals in corresponding technical environments with a specialist orientation in the mechanical field, with strong links to the planning, operation and maintenance of large-scale technical plants in the energy industry, transport and logistics and production.

The study programme can be completed alongside a 40h full-time job in an eight-semester part-time model.

Online Presence Study

The Mechanical Engineering degree programme is offered as an online presence programme, whereby the proportion of physical presence lectures at the university amounts to approximately 25% of the degree programme. The attendance proportion is published with a corresponding planning lead time at the start of the semester. The attendance times are mainly used for the required practical parts of the study programme, such as exercises, laboratory work and examinations. This study model gives you maximum flexibility when it comes to choosing your place of study.

Mobile studying enables you to take part in courses anywhere in Germany, regardless of your current situation. Regardless of whether you live and work in Munich, Cologne, Hamburg or Berlin, with us you can comfortably complete your Bachelor's degree from home. In this way, we offer you a high degree of compatibility between your job, even if you work 40 hours a week, your family and your studies. To ensure your study success, we rely on various digital learning tools plus personal support. Our digital formats include:

  • Online presence lectures via WebEx or MS Teams
  • Video tutorials
  • Moodle learning platform incl. teaching materials
  • Online consultation hours with lecturers
  • Online exams and oral exams
  • Homework and project work as final performance

Duration of the part-time course
4 years or 8 semesters

The part-time course takes place on two evenings per week from 6:00 pm - 9:15 pm and on two Saturdays per month from 8:30 am - 5:30 pm.

Admission Requirements

  • 'Abitur' or a university of applied sciences entrance diploma ('Fachhochschulreife') or otherwise
  • (pursuant to section 11 of the Berlin Higher Education Act):
  • a vocational qualification which gives eligibility to study for a degree or
  • a qualification as a master craftsman, state-certified technician, state-certified business economist
For international applicants
German language certificate - level C1, according to the Common European Framework of Reference

Career Prospects

This engineering degree programme teaches you the basics of classical mechanical engineering as well as subject-specific knowledge of technical inspection, plant monitoring and maintenance, as well as plant planning and renewal, contract awarding and construction management and supervision, which are important for large-scale plant operation. The programme qualifies students for a consecutive technical Master's degree.
