Start of winter semester 2019/20: 45 employees begin their studies at the bbw Hochschule University of Applied Sciences

bbgl Immatrikulation WS19_21
Enrolment of new part-time students

With a glass of sparkling wine and many good wishes, 45 working people were enrolled yesterday in their bachelor studies at the bbw Hochschule - University of Applied Sciences in the Haus der Wirtschaft. From today on, employees of large companies such as Siemens, Vattenfall or Otis, as well as medium-sized and smaller companies, will regularly come to the bbw Hochschule - University of Applied Sciences two days a week and once a month at the weekend after work so that they can receive their Bachelor's certificate in four years' time. The chances for this are extremely good, with only a 5% drop-out rate, a tight study organization and close, personal student support, even if the coming years as part-time students will probably demand some efforts from each individual.

With each speech, the new students received plenty of good tips and learned a few stories that were intended above all to show that studying is worthwhile if you get it right and are supported by your environment in the right places. The speeches given by the Rector, the Chancellor and the anchor professors to their new students focused above all on the opportunity to further their professional and personal development and to achieve more with a Bachelor's degree and perhaps a Master's degree at a later date. They assured the enrollees that they would be happy to accompany all university staff on their way and support them to the best of their ability. Everyone should take this opportunity into their own hands, no matter how difficult it may be to leave for university after a long working day.

Prof. Dr. Lucht passed on some of the advice of the American financial expert, entrepreneur, patron and author Warren Buffet, which in his opinion could be a good motivation. For Buffet, they were obviously prerequisites for his success: "Right at the top he called passion for the profession. It is an important impulse to absorb a lot of knowledge. He recommended looking for role models and observing exactly how they work, what they are willing to do and what can be learned from them. Also Buffet's advice: Surround yourself with people who bring you something and: Invest in yourself, show that conscious decisions are important if you want to achieve something.

Because studying, as Goethe already knew, is "eager to make an effort", the first students of our university were given a more concrete insight into their future life in the parallel universe of the university - with module overviews, study plan and entry evaluation - packed nicely in the Studybag. And as an important preparation for their self-study at home, group work and the exchange among each other, they already got to know the interface and functionalities of the digital learning platform Moodle on this occasion, which from now on will be available to them during their studies.
