Start of the winter semester - for all dual and full-time students

2017-10-05

For a total of 250 people, our matriculation ceremony for the winter semester 2017/18 of bbw University of Applied Sciences traditionally took place at Haus der Wirtschaft on 5th October 2017. The director of the university's supporting organization bbw Academy, Dr. Andreas Forner, congratulated all enrolees for their decision to choose bbw University of Applied Sciences for their studies. As an initiative of the business associations in Berlin-Brandenburg (UVB), the bbw and reputable companies of the region, the university was founded as a university of science 10 years ago. By developing and evaluating the study programs together with bbw University the corporate companies are very close to the needs of economy, Dr. Forner said. "The economy of the region is already waiting for the graduates of our university. Therefore, like your predecessors, you have very good career entry opportunities."

The rector of the university, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Gebhard Hafer, referred in his speech to the increasing influence of digitalization and the requirements that science provides for students and professionals. He pointed out that the university takes its function very seriously to provide its students convenient knowledge. Thereby, knowledge means more than data, information or facts. It is rather about personalised, individual knowledge, especially about experiences and therefore also consciousness and eventually about the tool used to gain significant skills for problem solving. For this, the university has to create an optimal framework together with its students every day. The current accreditations and certifications of the university, its study programs and its quality management system are important requirements for that. "Together we will ensure a functional circle of knowledge at our university that creates, secures, spreads and applies relevant knowledge. This requires a constant evaluation and questioning on a regular basis. ... This is a challenging task, but also the engine for innovation, which economy desperately needs", Prof. Hafer said. "I wish all students a successful time. Use all the possibilities that our university offers to you. I am looking forward seeing you two or three years later and presenting you your Bachelor or Master Degree certificate."

About one half of all study starters of this winter semester is matriculated into a Bachelor study program, the other half aims for a master's degree. Thereby, the so far largest group of Bachelor students starts its studies in the dual engineering science-oriented study program Electrical Engineering with the specialization in Control and Safety Engineering, which was developed by bbw University of Applied Sciences together with Deutsche Bahn and which is currently held by a consortium of reputable companies, like DB Engineering & Consulting GmbH, the Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe BVG, the Signon Deutschland GmbH, the GRE Gauff Rail Engineering GmbH Co.KG, the NEXTRAIL Consulting GmbH, the SPITZKE SE Güterverkehrszentrum (GVZ) Berlin-Süd, the WSP Infrastructure Engineering GmbH and the HTG Ingenieurbüro für Bauwesen GmbH. The second place of all new students is filled by Business Sciences with the specialization Real Estate Management, followed by Trade Management, Fashion, Media and Health Management, as well as Business Communications.

In this winter semester, the most matriculations in Master Degree courses were listed in international, English-speaking study programs. Hereby, the Master program International Technology Transfer Management received the most students. Also a high number of students were matriculated in Real Estate Project Management, Management of Creative Industries and in Strategic Management of Logistics. Most students from abroad are matriculated in these study programs. They come from India, Pakistan, Brazil, France, Italy and Serbia.
