With Erasmus+, students may study at a European university in a different participating country following completion of their first year of study in order to expand their social and cultural skills and improve their career prospects. They can thus get to know the academic systems of universities abroad while also experiencing new teaching and learning methods. Funding is provided for stays in all of the countries participating in the programme.
Our students about their stay abroad
"Why Moscow - why don't you spend one year in France or in the USA? It's not as cold as in Russia there, and you already know the languages!" When I started to plan my year abroad in Moscow, people asked me these questions and were quite surprised about my choice. At that time, I could only guess how much I would profit from studying in this special country-a study that was financially facilitated thanks to the Erasmus+ scholarship.
With only some words of Russian in my suitcase and the Cyrillic alphabet in my mind, I started my year abroad and was happy about the English-speaking courses at my new university, the Higher School of Economics Moscow.
ERASMUS+ Study Abroad

The ERASMUS programme for study abroad offers the following benefits:
- Recognition of academic achievements gained abroad
- Exemption from course fees, registration fees, examination fees and laboratory and library fees at the receiving university
- Mobility grant for additional costs incurred overseas
- Support with organising your stay abroad
- Intensive guidance at both the home and receiving university
- Grants for students with children
- Grants for students with disabilities
As a general rule, all students have the right to take part in Erasmus+, regardless of their course and level of study. Official requirements state that the student must hold citizenship of a participating country. However, students of other nationalities may also take part in the Erasmus+ programme if they are enrolled at the bbw Hochschule - University of Applied Sciences and study there for the entirety of the course.
- Enrolment at the bbw Hochschule - University of Applied Sciences
- at least two successfully completed semesters before the intended stay abroad
- Language proficiency may be required, depending on the country and type of stay.
- Study abroad at a partner university with which the home university already has an Erasmus-cooperation agreement (Inter-Institutional Agreement).
- Home and receiving universities both hold a valid student-charter for higher education (ECHE).
Funding is granted for stays within Europe lasting a period of 3-12 months (multiple stays also possible).

Step 1. :
When? No later than 6 months before the start of the intended stay abroad.What? The application documents, including:
- Letter of motivation (please state academic reasons for study at your chosen university, 1 page max.)
- CV in tabular form (Europass template)
- Relevant language certificates Where? International Office at the bbw Hochschule - University of Applied Sciences
Step 2. :
At the receiving university: Admission and/or accommodation applications to the partner universityWhen? Application deadlines differ depending on the partner university.
What? Application documents: see requirements on the partner university website. In general, these include admission application, accommodation application, outline of course of study so far and language tests where applicable.
Where? Send directly to the partner university.
Many partner universities contact applicants directly following their selection and inform them of the next steps to take (usually by email). These procedures can often be found on the respective university website.
Step 3. :
Apply for the ERASMUS+ mobility grant
The current ERASMUS+ documents (information, forms) will be sent to you by email and are also available to download.

Before the Erasmus stay abroad
Erasmus students at the bbw Hochschule - University of Applied Sciences must complete the following formalities:- Submit the Original Grant Agreement
- Submit the Learning Agreement
- Participate in any obligatory language tests
The European Commission has made a language skill test available online in 18 languages. This is compulsory and must be completed by all students and graduates both before and after the stay abroad. The test is not a selection criteria and is not valid for native speakers of the respective language. The aim of the language test is to allow Erasmus+ participants to document their current language level. The test should be taken before and after the stay abroad to provide a direct comparison of the results and thus allow the participants to record their language progress. Systematic, comprehensive and Europe-wide testing of individual language proficiency development makes it possible to evaluate the effectiveness of the Erasmus+ programme.
During the stay abroad
- Adaptation of the Learning Agreement where applicable, should there be changes to the choice of modules.
Following the stay abroad
- Sending of the Certificate of Attendance
- Submission of a report via Mobility Tool Plus (participants automatically receive an email with a link to the online form)
- Completion of the second part of the language test.
Erasmus+ aims to promote inclusion and equal opportunities and thus offers students from disadvantaged backgrounds and with special needs easier access to the programme.

Special funding for students with children as a lump sum (study abroad only):
Students whose child/children accompany them on an Erasmus+ study abroad and who care for them as single parents during the stay may receive special funding in the form of a lump sum. The maximum monthly funding amount is fixed according to three country groups.
