The right of students to have a say in the important issues of study management is secured, allowing them to play an active part in shaping life at the bbw Hochschule - University of Applied Sciences. The sittings of the student parliament are open to all members of the university.
Through our student parliament, students are able to make an active contribution to the work of the various university committees. First of all, we should mention here the Academic Senate, a body which includes representation by the chairperson and deputy chair of the student parliament. This means that students are directly involved in all academic processes, having full voting rights. In the assessment of various alternatives in the decision-making process, the members of the AS place great weight on the opinions/points of view of the students and they routinely attempt to find a consensus when deciding on solutions, making the enforcement of the measures in question easier.
The student parliament also sends a student representative to the university examination board, again with full voting rights accorded.
Student representatives also have an influence on the qualitative development of the university through their involvement in appointments committees. In line with the regulations for appointments, these committees always include a student representative, chosen by the student parliament. The appointments committee pays particular attention to the vote cast by the student. Students thus have considerable influence on the appointment process for professors and in turn on the future quality of their instruction.
Exchange of ideas and opinions with students is, however, not only limited to committee work but also has informal channels. The university administration holds regular dialogue sessions with representatives of the student parliament with the goal of optimising conditions for students in line with their needs and wishes.
