bbw Hochschule - University of Applied Sciences commenced operations in 2007 with a focus on being a strong academic partner for the Berlin and Brandenburg economy. By ensuring each course was carefully designed to meet the demands of local businesses, bbw grew quickly. In just ten years, it has become the largest private university in the region. That growth has been fueled by an unwavering commitment to each of our student's academic development.
bbw's structured blend of practical and theoretical training has seen over 10,000 students entering employment with a skillset that allows then to immediately commence work as academically trained specialists and managerial staff. We are proud of each and every graduate, and continually strive to educate in ways that prepare new graduates for the issues and challenges awaiting them in an increasingly internationalised labour market.
One key way bbw does this is to connect and collaborate on research and academic exchange projects with leading universities around the world. This focus has seen bbw expand its presence beyond the Berlin and Brandenburg region through strategic international partnerships and alliances with intuitions in Asia and Africa - all the while developing closer relationships with partners located within the European Union.
Our Vision
Our international vision is to become a strong academic partner and provider for students and universities seeking the skills for which Germany is renowned. We plan to do this by closely aligning our mission as a provider of quality higher education with the core principles of the EU and Germany's Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GiZ). This involves:
- Developing project-based learning initiatives in collaboration with partner universities from around the world with, where applicable, the support of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).
- To deliver these initiatives in courses via blended learning approaches that directly benefit both students at bbw and those at the partnering university. This includes using live video seminars, hackathons, joint international research and development projects, dual degrees, field trips and workshops with partnering institutes and firms to internationalise the skillsets of all students participating.
- Many of these initiatives will have an engineering and economic focus, these being the core strengths of bbw. Going forward, inclusion, energy and health will play an increasing role as 2020 approaches and beyond.
