Type of study Extra-occupational studies

Are you looking for a challenge in addition to your job, looking to improve yourself, gain an academic qualification and get a good run up to that career leap? You want to secure your job and/or go for a demanding position in the company? Here we've gathered information to show you how courses at the bbw Hochschule - University of Applied Sciences are an optimal fit to your working day.

The course structure

Because those employed have a limited amount of time to invest in studying alongside their working day, the content of the course is spread across 8 semesters. Participants thus receive a full study programme, comparable with qualifications from full-time courses.
Seminars and lectures take place twice a week in the evenings from 6 - 9:15 pm. Teaching days vary, which allows better compatibility with work-related events and commitments. Seminars and lectures also take place every second Saturday from 8:30 am - 5:30 pm.

And for extra-occupational course students, there’s an added bonus with Blended Learning: 25% of the learning material is offered as eLearning content so you can study whenever and wherever.

At the same time, the high percentage of course time contributes significantly to your success in the course. You are in direct exchange with lecturers and other students and by arranging study groups and building personal contacts, students are supported through critical learning phases.

Advantages of an extra-occupational course

Advantages for employees

  • The course is not only an excellent opportunity to get to know new and related focus areas alongside your job, it also offers a powerful incentive for personal development. It thus acts as an inspirational force on your personal path.
  • The enhancement of your practical experiences through academic qualification ultimately allows new perspectives for your professional development. And with consecutive payments, you are also financially independent during your course.
  • The scientific methods used in the course improve your awareness of structured approaches, critical problem solving, and analytical skills.
  • Adapting to consistent learning makes it easier for you to absorb and process new and complex information quickly - in your working life, too. In addition to content-specific expertise, other skills such as stress resistance and self-organisation are also taught.
  • Next to the increased appeal for potential employers, with a completed extra-occupational course, your network will also profit enormously from your cooperation with fellow students, experts and lecturers.

Advantages for employers

  • A course doesn’t only offer new fields of activity and qualify you for higher-value tasks, it can also cover employers’ new personnel requirements.
  • Results and conclusions gained from study as well as theories learned can be directly transferred and put into practice.
  • New skills and knowledge can both increase work performance significantly and influence the results positively.
  • The final dissertation of the course offers students the opportunity to analyse and solve areal company issue. In this regard, the course directly qualifies the student for certain fields of activity and/or positions.
  • Through exchange with fellow students and lecturers, new ideas and points of contact can be developed for the individual company.
