Two internship (practical) phases form part of the full-time study courses. Students have the opportunity of undertaking the internship in Germany or abroad. Students are assisted in finding internships by the Internship Career Service of the bbw Hochschule - University of Applied Sciences.
The following contains various reports on internships by students studying a wide range of subjects.
During my second compulsory internship, I worked in the constituency office of Nicole Walter-Mundt, Member of the State Parliament, and in the Brandenburg State Parliament. In addition to providing support in the constituency (Oranienburg, Leegebruch, Liebenwalde) and in the Brandenburg state parliament, the focus of my work was on accompanying people to appointments in the constituency (citizens' discussions/appointments, ministers' discussions/appointments) and on applying the "soft skills" I had already learned in part during my studies, such as organisation, communication, press work, research and networking. I was able to contribute knowledge from the fields of economics and tourism on the basis of my tasks and actively participate in political processes such as motions. I can only recommend anyone who is thinking of doing an internship in politics and is genuinely interested to pluck up the courage and write an application to a member of parliament or a political institution of their choice.

I have always dreamed of working on the beach and under palm trees. In between going surfing and immersing myself in a completely new culture. I immediately convinced myself that it was an incredibly brilliant idea and booked the flight and my first accommodation. For my stay in Bali, I had chosen the city of Canggu, because this place was supposed to be Bali's business hub where countless expats, digital nomads and entrepreneurs stay. And yes, it was! I was totally amazed at how many modern cafés and restaurants there are and how many people from all over the world live in Canggu. We mostly worked in cafés or co-working spaces (of which there are countless in Canggu - and yes, even with very good wifi!). I found the internship through a Facebook post in the "Bali Jobs" group and completed it from 1 July to 31 August 2022. I would therefore advise anyone looking for internships abroad to also take a look at country and city-specific Facebook groups.

Everybody talks about start-ups, but I found my perfect internship in a young, dynamic grown-up. portero GmbH is a fast-growing, established, young company in the construction industry. I was allowed to work in this Urlichtenberg-based company that is taking off in the fast-paced Berlin real estate market with a symbiosis of outstanding quality and modern coordination. In 2015, the Bibic brothers founded portero GmbH with the high ambition of rolling up the growing Berlin service market for refurbishment and modernisation with their concept. The three pillars of the group of companies made it possible to build up a stable, cyclically independent provider. The core company is portero GmbH, which covers the area of facility management, i.e. renovation, repair, maintenance, care of outdoor facilities and consulting.

The most enjoyable part of the internship was the variety between office work with creative brainstorming, organisation and planning phases, as well as the implementation of the various events on site throughout Germany. In the office, my tasks were mainly accepting order enquiries, briefly advising and explaining the various promotional offers, positioning ACCENTA staff for the events, hotel bookings and sending out detailed information to staff for the upcoming events. I always worked closely with another ACCENTA employee during the implementation of the events. The events are booked by clients throughout Germany and carried out on site. The customers of the campaign days are mostly the distribution partners of the World of TUI - the travel agencies. My tasks here were the set-up, implementation and dismantling as well as communication with the customers on site.

To live and work in New York one day, that was my dream and had been on my list of things to do for a long time. As a student at the bbw Hochschule - University of Applied Sciences, two internships are scheduled for me during my studies. These opportunities were crying out for me to go abroad, especially to New York. But how do you go about it? Where do you start and what do you have to do? First of all, I still had a long way to go to organise it. I heard about Cultural Vistas in December and was advised to apply as soon as possible, which was indeed necessary. I sent in my application at the beginning of January. The first step was to fill in a form with personal details and rough ideas about the stay. I quickly received a reply from the programme supervisor in the USA. We arranged a Skype interview to clarify details such as the location, language and areas of work.

We are studying economics with a specialisation in media management and have therefore decided to do an internship in the area of business development and marketing. Cathérine has been working for the company as a student trainee for 1 ½ years and also completed her first internship at DEINHANDY. Since she liked the work and the team so much, she brought Denise on board to start her second internship. Cathérine worked in Business Development and Marketing, as well as getting a taste of the work of the Customer Care Team. Within our field of activity, we were able to organise our work independently and learned to take on responsibility on our own. In addition to work, everyday life included not only the common breaks, but also great events within the office. These events gave us the opportunity to get to know our colleagues even better and to exchange ideas about professional and private matters.

My name is Valentin, I'm 20 years old, I'm studying Business Communication and I did my second semester internship at the company Upcycling Deluxe. Upcycling Deluxe is a start-up from Berlin-Neukölln that turns supposed rubbish into cool new products, from caps made of coffee sacks to belts made of bicycle inner tubes. The products are from 50 upcycling labels and eco-social cooperatives from all over the world. The team consists of about 7 seven people, including technical, wholesale, marketing, logistics and event planning. My activities have mainly focused on marketing and sales. In conclusion, I can say that I got a lot out of the internship. I was able to make my own small footprint and look into many different areas. I was able to implement and further develop many things that I had learned theoretically at university. In addition, the team was always friendly and helpful.

For me, it was clear from the beginning that I wanted to go abroad again during my studies. The internship phase was perfect for this. After I had already spent a year in the USA, this time I wanted to go to the other end of the world, and I was interested in both New Zealand and Australia. At the beginning of 2013, I heard about "Out the Back Australia" in Outback Queensland through the bbw Hochschule - University of Applied Sciences and Ms Karth. "Out the Back Australia is a small tourism company in Cunnamulla, a town of 1200 people in Outback Queensland, about 850 km west of Brisbane. My main duties included serving guests in the restaurant and bar and selling alcohol in the in-house bottle shop. I also updated the online listing of "Out the Back Australia" on the "Australian Tourism Data Warehouse" homepage, a central database and important distribution platform for the Australian tourism industry.
