Visit from France

Franzosen in Berlin

The Institute for Academic Further Education (iawb) welcomed a study group from the Irup Regional Institute University from Saint-Étienne France to the bbw Hochschule - University of Applied Sciences from 6th February to 3rd March 2023.

As part of their study trip, the exchange students took part in a project work on the topic of start-up foundation. In the course of the project work, they gained an insight into the European start-up scene, got to know tools & methods on the topic of design thinking and exchanged ideas with international founders so that they can understand the first steps of founding a company. To bring the practice closer, Juan Ocampo, startup advisor of the PUSH startup centre, organised a guided tour of the hardware makerspace Motion.Lab, where the founders of the startup MotorSkins presented their technology and developments during the lecture "The future of wearables and soft robotics".

In addition, the French students attended various lectures on the topics of technology, innovation management and digitalisation during the three weeks. The contents of the lectures were always related to the ongoing project work in order to prepare the students accordingly.

A lot of fun was provided by the non-school social programme, which gave our guests a good insight into (study) life in Berlin. During this time, the students visited the BMW engine factory, the Bundestag, the Futurium and the company Voxelwerk, where they experienced an exciting workshop on 3D printing. As a final highlight of the workshop, all students were allowed to print a figure of themselves with the 3D printer. A very unique souvenir of their time with us in Berlin! At the end of their trip, all participants were delighted with the results of their project work and received a certificate of participation in a festive ceremony, which was presented by Prof. Rafflenbeul, Professor of Industrial Engineering and Head of the iawb, and Ursula Schwill, chancellor of the bbw.

The bbw Hochschule - University of Applied Sciences will once again welcome international exchange students to the university in July 2023 and will ensure an exciting and instructive programme.
