bbw Hochschule - University of Applied Sciences wins million euro BMWi funding

In order to enable more students and alumni to start their own business with "PUSH", the BMWi EXIST programme will support their start-up centre from 2020.

As one of around 220 universities applying for funding, the bbw Hochschule - University of Applied Sciences convinced the Federal Ministry of Economics and Energy (BMWi) with its concept and expertise and won the contract for its new bbw Start-up Centre in the "EXIST Potentials" funding priority with more than one million euros. This was announced by State Secretary Thomas Bareiß in the Berlin Futurium on 3 December.

A total of around 70 funding commitments were made here for innovative projects such as that of our university, which is intended to support students and graduates of all courses of study who want to start their own business from 1 March 2020. The funding is intended to ensure that they receive the decisive PUSH. This means: practice-oriented advice, support in taking the first steps towards independence and help in entering the market.

The project is scheduled to run for four years. The bbw Hochschule - University of Applied Sciences will use its proximity to the regional economy, its networking and cooperation within the international science and start-up landscape, as well as its particularly practice-oriented teaching and research, to get future entrepreneurs off the ground. "As a relatively young university, we are particularly pleased about the great vote of confidence by the Federal Ministry of Economics. Our students have a particularly high start-up potential due to the high sector orientation of the study courses, which we can now finally support with this fantastic funding. The Berlin-Brandenburg Business Associations will support us closely in this process", explains the Rector of the bbw Hochschule - University of Applied Sciences , Prof. Dr.-Ing. Hafer. The main focus will be on innovative start-up ideas that the young entrepreneurs can put into practice and support from experts with experience in business start-ups. The staff of our research center, the professors and many teaching staff have the best prerequisites for this. Many of them are founders themselves and work parallel to their teaching assignments at bbw University of Applied Sciences in leading positions in the business world, often in their own or co-founded companies.
