The NoMiG Project draws upon the 1st and 2nd Berlin Migrant Study, which continue to show a major need for research with regard to the integration of migrants and refugees into the German health system. Both studies have demonstrated inappropriate usage of healthcare facilities and this requires investigation. This is where NoMiG comes in in order to make the results on improvements to the facilities available.

The initiator of the project, Prof. Zahn, is managing director of the Gesundheitswissenschaftliches Institut Nordost (GeWINO), where extensive data analysis is being carried out on the health care facilities in Berlin, Brandenburg and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern to enable optimisation of the healthcare services. Furthermore, Prof. Zahn has been involved in the analysis of health science data for more than 10 years now and is also Professor of Research and Data Sciences at the bbw University.

The medical doctor and epidemiologist Prof. Razum, Dean of the Faculty for Health Sciences at the University of Bielefeld, which has been one of the leading institutes in Germany for research and teaching in the public health sector, is also involved in the project. He himself has submitted over 150 publications on the subject of migration and health.
