bbw University of Applied Sciences' first time participating in the 'Langen Nacht der Wissenschaften 2014'

12.05.2014

Again this year, numerous institutions of higher education in Berlin and Brandenburg opened their doors to the public and invited them to see behind the scenes. The motto of this year's event, which was held between 10-14 May 2014, was 'Come in and leave smarter than before - the smartest night of science'. bbw University of Applied Sciences was one of the numerous universities participating in this year's event.

Berlin, 12. Mai 2014 - Again this year, numerous institutions of higher education in Berlin and Brandenburg opened their doors to the public and invited them to see behind the scenes. The motto of this year's event, which was held between 10-14 May 2014, was 'Come in and leave smarter than before - the smartest night of science'. bbw University of Applied Sciences was one of the numerous universities participating in this year's event.

bbw University of Applied Sciences attracted visitors to its institution with lectures, hands-on experiments, exhibitions and presentations on the latest research findings on topics like e-mobility, e-logistics and e-fashion.

In addition to presentations given by fib - the Research Institute at bbw University of Applied Sciences -the company InnoZ presented its current findings from their transport research using a 'table of network mobility'. Visitors could try out different scenarios themselves and could observe the changes in the modal split over the course of the next 20 years. The electrical cart developed by bbw students, which was put together using only 'standard parts' and construction components made by a 3D printer, was also quite popular. Here visitors could see the symbiosis of two of the currently most innovative topics - 3D printing and e-mobility - up close and could try it out for themselves.

Visitors were able to test out the electrical cart, which has a range of more than 20 km and a speed of more than 25 km/h, on the university's own race course. Prof. Dr.-Ing. René Brunotte, director of fib, also demonstrated how different 3D printers work and explained the rapid prototype process. Letting visitors try out the innovations was also the focus here. They could 'scan' and then print out three-dimensional copies.

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Gebhard Hafer, the Vice-Chancellor of bbw University of Applied Sciences, explained, 'This year we participated in the 'Langen Nacht der Wissenschaften' event and it was a grand success for our relatively young university of applied sciences. I am please that we received so much interest in the topics of electrical mobility and in the 3D printing process.'

In addition to InnoZ, other supporters included Multicity, Opel Dinnebier, Fahrschule allroad and iav-automotive engineering.
