Re-accreditation of bbw University of Applied Sciences by the German Council of Science and Humanities

The bbw University of Applied Sciences, which is a university of applied sciences run by business for business in Berlin and Brandenburg, has be re-accredited for another five years by the 'Wissenschaftsrat' (German Council of Science and Humanities). This accreditation also means that the university and its academic degrees are state recognised as well as internationally recognised in the future.

With the accreditation, the bbw University of Applied Sciences received further confirmation that it lives up to university-level academic standards and its mission statement.

The report of the 'Wissenschaftsrat' noted that the bbw University of Applied Sciences offers students without A-levels the opportunity to receive a university education especially 'through its dual degree and part-time programmes for people who work'. The report also said that 'the different forms of study which coexist with each other' are a suitable way for 'addressing a heterogeneous student body whose members have different employment experience'. bbw University of Applied Sciences' student body has increased considerably from around 680 students at the time of its first accreditation in the 2011 summer semester to more than 1,200 students in the 2014/2015 winter semester.

The re-accreditation report also stresses that the Bachelor's programmes are characterised 'by a high level of praxis-orientation', which is commensurate with 'bbw University of Applied Sciences' focus on the local economy. Special praise is due for the university's quest to expand its cooperation agreements for executing dual programmes of study.'
