Experts in creative industries reinforce practical experience in the Master's programme in Management of Creative Industries

30.06.2016

bbw University of Applied Science's advisory committee for creative industries is commencing its work just in time for the start of the Master's programme in Management of Creative Industries (MCI) in the upcoming 2016/2017 winter semester.

The "Creative Industries" Advisory Board of the bbw University of Applied Sciences starts its work at the beginning of September.In time for the start of the Master's course in the Management of Creative Industries (MCI) in the upcoming Winter Semester 2016/17. The Advisory Boards are tasked with securing practical experience for the courses. They advise the university management on the development of study programs. They take a view on important trends in markets and industries and take note of the fit between the study programmes and the needs of the graduates. In order to be able to fulfil this task, the "Creative Industry Advisory Board" is composed in such a way that its members reflect a good cross-section of the various industries, the professions and the areas of activity. They know and understand the creative industries from a variety of relevant standpoints and bring in experience of typical corporate structures. And they are without exception experts on the special challenges that exist between creativity, global competition and digitalisation. The following personnel work in the " Creative Industries Advisory Board”:

Andreas Gebhard

  • Founder of one of the world's leading internet conferences, re: publica, and managing director of re: publica GmbH, as well as the founder of Creator, Broker, Owner GmbH (CBO) and newthinking communications GmbH, co-publisher of the blog netzpolitik.org, formerly PR lecturer, promoter, lecturer, official and project manager and much more;

Patrick Rau
  • Multiple award-winning computer game developer, Creative and Managing Director of kunst+stoff GmbH, former artist, communication designer, game designer, author, producer;
Dr. Christian Wolfgang Handke
  • Cultural Economics at the Erasmus University Rotterdam and Senior Researcher at the Institute of Information Law at Amsterdam University, formerly also an EU consultant;
Kristian Jarmuschek
  • Gallery owner, founder, initiator and organizer of art projects, exhibitions and galleries, Chairman of the Federal Association of German Galleries and Art Dealers, Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Cultural and Creative Industries, Berlin.
In addition to their development and consulting activities, the Members of the Advisory Board enrich the teaching, for example by giving guest lectures. If necessary, they can recruit young talent for their companies from amongst the students. In addition to the professional Advisory Boards, the professors and teachers at the bbw University of Applied Sciences also ensure the high standards of academic education. As a rule, they come from the business sector and, in some cases, still own their own companies in addition to lecturing, or are employed part-time. For example the anchor professor for the MCI Master's Programme, Prof. Dr. Malte Behrmann, an internationally recognized industry expert, comes directly from the creative industry. He brings with him his experience as a lawyer in the gaming industry and as a former Managing Director of the GAME German Federal Association as well as General Secretary of the European Games Developer Federation (EGDF), Malmo / Helsinki. “I am delighted that we are able to start our course of studies with our Advisory Board and with teachers who have joined us that have such strong backing from their practical experience. This holistic course is a new concept for the entire industry, "says Prof. Dr. Behrmann.

For the first time, a Master's programme is being offered by bbw University of Applied Sciences that is aimed at ambitious professionals from all sectors of the creative industries - the English-language Master's programme MCI. It provides urgently needed competencies for a market economy, which can be vital for the provision of creative services or the creation of start-ups, for example. It also enables job changes within the industry into new positions - for example, from areas such as print media or the performing arts, where the effects of digitalisation often include job cuts or restructuring. The aim is to make graduates ready to tackle the challenges of the future.

Entry is available to all Bachelor's graduates, ideally from a related field of study. One advantage of the Master's degree programme is that it can be studied alongside the student’s everyday work and in line with his lifestyle, as the lectures take place on Fridays and Saturdays. Only a limited number of about 25 study places are available, in order to optimise study results.
