vortrag_hochschule

Yesterday, the 2016/17 winter semester started with the matriculation of the new Bachelor's and Master's students at the bbw University of Applied Science in full-time and dual studies. The following Bachelor's courses were opened:
Economic Sciences specialising in Health Management, Property Management, Media Management, Fashion Management, Tourism and Event Management, Economic Communication, Economic Engineering Sciences with the optional subject of Logistics and Supply Chain Management and the dual course Engineering Sciences Electrical Engineering specialising in Control and Safety Systems, which the bbw University of Applied Science in cooperation with Deutsche Bahn AG, BVG, SIGNON Dtl. and IVV GmbH.
For the first time, three new Master's courses will start. For example, students matriculated on the Real Estate Project Management, Management of Creative Industries and International Technology Transfer Management courses.

In total, around equal numbers of male and female students were accepted on these course, most of them with "Abitur" [university entrance requirement], slightly less than a third with an advanced technical college certificate and a few without "Abitur" but with vocational qualifications who are entitled to study under Article 11 of Berlin's University Act. This time, a noticeably high number of students came from states other than Berlin and Brandenburg. The new students include many from Dortmund, Bavaria, Nuremberg, Braunschweig and a few foreign students, e.g. from Kazakhstan and the USA. Currently, students from 40 countries are studying at the bbw University of Applied Science.

Traditionally, the matriculation celebrations take place in Berlin's Haus der Wirtschaft. The welcoming speech was held by Dr. Andreas Forner, Managing Director of the bbw Academy, which the university's holding company. With a cordial welcome, he introduced the bbw and its university of applied science and congratulated the new students on their decision to start their route to the world of work by studying at this university. In her speech, Prof. Dr. Angelika Grunwald, Director of Studies, referred to the advantages of studying at a private university. In particular, she cited the relatively small groups, the central study organisation, aimed at earning a degree within the standard study period, and the close relationship with the professors, teaching staff and university employees who have practical experience and enable a very practical course of study and the low drop-out rate of below 5 %.

But at the same time, Prof. Dr. Grundwald pointed out that it would be a prejudice to believe that the payment of fees would mean that a degree could be obtained for less knowledge of a subject and less effort than at state universities. But all speakers also emphasised that student days are a wonderful time in a person's life in which you learn a lot but also have to have fun. Prof. Grunwald said in conclusion: "Studying means: starting, persisting, graduating. You have now started, we will help you to persist and graduate. Come to us if you have problems. We are looking forward to the next three years with you."

All of the speakers, including the Chairman of the Student Parliament Daniel Kuhk, pointed out that there are many opportunities at the university to get support at the university for smooth studies, but also the opportunity to help get involved in many ways. He therefore invited the new arrivals to take part in the election for the representatives to the Student Parliament that afternoon.

Dr. Forner and the Chancellor of the bbw University of Applied Science, Jürgen Weiß also drew attention to get involved in everyday life at the university alongside studies. There would be an opportunity to do so in the preparations for the 10th anniversary of the bbw University of Applied Science in the year ahead.

With the launch of the Master's course Real Estate Project Management and the popularity of the Bachelor's course specialising in Property Management, the chair in this discipline is being expanded. The certificate of appointment for Professor at the bbw University of Applied Science for Property Management was therefore presented to Dr.-Ing. Anne Sanftenberg.
