Financing your studies
On this page we have collected our tips on financing your studies – from tuition fees and self-financing to BAföG, student loans and scholarships.
Tuition fees
You will find the monthly tuition fees for our Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes on the respective programme pages in the facts box under „Fees“. In a dual study programme, your partner company pays your tuition fees.
Self-financing
Self-financing means that students cover the cost of the tuition fees themselves. bbw Hochschule offers students the option of paying these fees in monthly instalments.
Tax deductibility
Following the landmark ruling of the Federal Fiscal Court (Bundesfinanzhof) in 2002, the costs of further and advanced training are deductible as income-related expenses. Participants in further education programmes who have already completed a vocational qualification can claim the tuition fees as income-related or extraordinary expenses, provided the programme is demonstrably job-related.
BAföG
German students are entitled to funding under the Federal Training Assistance Act (Bundesausbildungsförderungsgesetz, BAföG) when studying at bbw Hochschule – just as at state universities. The payment is granted depending on income and assets. The BAföG calculator is available free of charge via the hotline 0180 5262301 (EUR 0.12/min).
Funding options also exist for international students. The responsible BAföG office will inform you about the requirements. What matters for the application is the location of the university, not your place of residence.
Student loans / education loans
Full-time students at bbw Hochschule can make use of the student and education loans offered by KfW Bank under the federal „Bildungskredit“ programme. Applications can be submitted through any of KfW’s nationwide distribution partners.

Daka e.V. – Studentische Darlehnskasse
Despite BAföG, scholarships and support from their parents, students do not always have sufficient financial means at the end of their academic training. A part-time job often delays graduation unnecessarily or even makes it impossible. This is where the student loan of Studentische Darlehnskasse e.V. has come in for more than 65 years: with this loan, students at our Berlin member universities need not worry about money during this time. They can put all their energy into completing their degree successfully.
Regardless of age, BAföG, income, nationality and number of semesters, the loan is granted for a maximum of three years. The monthly instalments amount to a maximum of EUR 750. During the subsequent repayment-free period of usually six months, students can then focus fully on their job applications without any financial pressure. The combination of financial support during your studies, a time buffer for the job search afterwards and moderate repayment rates has proven very successful.
The conditions of the student loan are as follows:
for the first two years
for the following three years
from the sixth year onwards
The DAKA website explains clearly how the application process works.
Scholarships
Alongside BAföG and loans, scholarships are an excellent way to finance your studies – including for working professionals.
Scholarships – also for working professionals
The „Aufstiegsstipendium“ (advancement scholarship) of the Federal Government’s qualification initiative is designed to make access to higher education and career advancement easier, especially for people with vocational qualifications. Talented applicants with vocational training and at least two years of professional experience can apply and receive, for example, EUR 1,700 per year for a part-time degree programme. The Federal Ministry of Education and Research also supports various organisations for the promotion of gifted students that award scholarships.
