Our mission statement documents our perception of our goals in terms of development as well as the strategic alignment of the university. This statement forms the basis for impulses for development and provides a benchmark for the conduct of the members of the university.

Our mission statement

The bbw Hochschule - University of Applied Sciences is the economic university for the economy in Berlin and Brandenburg. Under the guidance of the bbw Bildungswerk der Wirtschaft in Berlin und Brandenburg e.V. and the supporting Unternehmensverbände in Berlin und Brandenburg (UVB), it trains academic specialists and managers in business-related degree programmes with a practical orientation. This is the basic idea behind the university's mission statement.

The bbw Hochschule - University of Applied Sciences is one of the biggest private, state-recognised universities in Berlin and Brandenburg and has its headquarters and roots in the region. All of its activities outside of Berlin and Brandenburg follow the goal of providing business and industry with specialists and managers, while at the same time offering young people from all over the world a path to an academic education.

Through an academic as well as cultural internationalisation of higher education, the bbw Hochschule - University of Applied Sciences supports the mobility of students, lecturers and the administrative staff in order to strengthen the quality of the degree programmes at the same time.

These points are realised through the expansion of digitalisation, which as a cross-sectional function is thus a core task of the bbw Hochschule - University of Applied Sciences. As an economic university for the economy, bbw Hochschule - University of Applied Sciences also sees the consideration of sustainability and diversity within its various degree programmes, projects and daily work as further core tasks.

The core points of the mission statement of the bbw Hochschule - University of Applied Sciences are in line with the current catalogue of demands of European and German education policy.

Its essential elements are:

  • Study programme offers in full-time and part-time, dual degree programme offers in full-time and job-integrating study forms in part-time also in dual study organisation for trainees, employed persons and persons from Germany and abroad who are qualified to enter higher education,
  • Access opportunities for professionals with and without A-levels,
  • Sustainable quality development of the teaching and degree programmes,
  • Holistic and individual counselling and support,
  • Internationalisation,
  • A branch principle that brings the offering to locations outside of Berlin-Brandenburg,
  • Industry and practical relevance of the degree programmes through close cooperation with associations, companies and personalities from the business world,
  • Application and transfer-oriented as well as interdisciplinary teaching, research and development,
  • Modern and diverse study methods that promote both personal and social competencies and skills in the development of students, using, for example, digital teaching and interaction, e-learning and project- or case-based assignments in individual or group work,
  • Supporting students with internships and entry into professional life, digitalisation as a driver for change processes and development in studies, teaching, research and administration,
  • An overall organisational approach characterised by diversity, sustainability, responsible leadership and respectful and non-discriminatory interaction, both externally and internally, which is demonstrated in the creation and implementation of services.
