A commencement party was held for welcoming new students and for announcing appointments of professors

Today a good fifth of bbw University of Applied Sciences' student body started off their full-time programmes of study, which also encompass praxis-oriented projects, with a commencement party that was held in the Berliner Haus der Wirtschaft. Most of these students want to obtain a Bachelor of Arts in economic sciences with a specialisation in tourism and event management, health management, trade management or media management. However some of the new students who are starting their studies at the second largest private, state-recognised university of applied sciences in Berlin and Brandenburg are pursuing degrees in engineering business management with a specialisation in logistics and supply chain management or in mechanical engineering with a specialisation in mechatronics or renewable energies.

Prof. Dr. Herbert Grüner, the Vice-Chancellor of bbw University of Applied Sciences, warmly welcomed the students, saying 'You are commencing your studies at bbw, which is a metropolitan university. From today onwards, make this university your university!' Ms Ingrid Menten, the Managing Director of the bbw Akademie, mentioned the opportunities that a university degree based on linking theory and praxis together can bring to students because it is conceived by businesses for businesses. Both speakers stressed all of the programmes of study are closely related to praxis and industry, and highlighted the benefits of having relatively small study groups in which students can learn and research topics according to study methods. A representative of the student body council added, 'Being a student at our university also means that they can benefit from the university's open-door policy and get solid advice from their professors and university staff.' Prof. Dr. Grüner stressed that an important advantage of studying at bbw is that the institution is not only focused on issuing formal degrees, but it also concerns itself with helping students develop a variety of professional and social skills. bbw University of Applied Sciences places a lot of value on having well-coordinated curriculum so that students have a real opportunity to finish their studies in a short amount of time. Ms Menten spoke of the university's training placement guarantee with offers ranging from the North Pole to Australia.' This also means after students receive their degree, they will have opportunities to work at Porsche, Siemens, Aida Cruises or in the Chancellery of the state of Saxony....The world is wide open and we will gladly help you to seize these opportunities.'

With the start of the winter semester, there will also be two new professors at bbw University of Applied Sciences: Prof. Dr. Uwe Här, who will primarily teach mathematics in the future, and Prof. Dr. Michael Hintelmann, who will conduct research and will teach in bbw's healthcare management programme.

Enrolment is open for the part-time programmes for people who work until 01 March 2012 and for the full-time programmes until 01 April 2012!
