bbw Employers' Fair for Companies from Commerce and Logistics

2016-04-21

Companies from Berlin and Brandenburg seeking skilled workers and apprentices introduced themselves at Logistics Day.

Some of them with thick folders full of job adverts for apprenticeships, jobs and placements, the training managers and HR managers from just under 20 companies came to attract the visitors to the second bbw University of Applied Science Employers’ Fair as future apprentices, skilled workers, interns or trainees to their companies. The talks at some of the packed crowds around some of the company stands bore witness to the fact that this had obviously worked in some cases. Not only were many questions answered, websites scrutinised, flyers distributed, but specific appointments were made for interviews, placements awarded and applications submitted.

This year’s bbw Employers’ Fair took place on 21 April, Logistics Day and therefore presented commercial, logistics and haulage firms from Berlin and Brandenburg with the opportunity to present themselves and their vacancies in Berlin’s Haus der Wirtschaft. Companies of all sizes were there – from Lidl, Edeka and Würth via Deutsche Post and PIN Mail AG via Classic Trader and Mocotronic Systems, haulage firms such as die Rieck Holding or Spedition Kliese right up to bito aktiengesellschaft, FDB FrischeDienstBerlin and various personnel service providers who seek out staff for the sector in various roles..

The variety of interesting potential employers and the diversity of vacant positions suited the bbw students who are currently completing retraining at various bbw locations, e.g. to be specialists in warehouse logistics or a manager in freight forwarding and logistics services, salesperson or retail manager. But job-seeking participants on our further training courses found the job offers of interest. Individual students from our bbw University of Applied Science introduced themselves and found out about suitable starting opportunities for Bachelor’s and Master’s graduates. And a large number of participants in our sector- and job-specific German courses made contacts with the companies. Even clients from job centres and employment agencies used the opportunity to look for job vacancies or basic or further training offers.

”It will take a few days or weeks for us to see how many suitable applicants there were. It is beneficial to both sides if we as bbw manage to bring companies seeking skilled workers and our participants, graduates and students together in this way." Summarised Prof. Dr.-Ing. Gebhard Hafer, Managing Director of bbw e.V. and Rector of the university.
